Session Description: TeleStroke is a proven model deployed utilizing telemedicine technology for remote access to patients with acute stroke, mainly for the purpose of advice regarding thrombolysis. Studies have demonstrated benefits to patients, with clinical outcomes similar to in-hospital management of acute ischemic stroke. TeleStroke has been implemented in many countries and is recommended by most Stroke Guidelines for covering resource limited communities. While many stroke units and groups aspire to initiate a TeleStroke network, establishing a running service is often perceived to be daunting, given the need for interactive technological networks, managing service providers with different backgrounds and capabilities, as well as administrative challenges. This session provides a basic understanding of the essential resources required for developing an effective TeleStroke network and a roadmap for implementing it from conception to daily service management. Emphasis would be on developing such programs in resource-poor settings.
