Biography

Gloria Ekeng is a Neuroscience Nurse and Stroke Nurse Consultant with a specialist interest in stroke care, Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) and management. She is the CEO of Stroke Care International, a stroke support organisation. She has a master’s degree in Advanced Neuroscience Practice and is a member of the Royal College of Nursing (UK).

Gloria works an independent Nurse prescriber and holds several association and board level positions including being on the WSO Executive Board of Directors and Co-chair for ASO Advocacy Working group. In addition, she is a member of the British Neuroscience Association and Neuroscience Nursing Forum.

At Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, she piloted the Nurse-led fast track Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) assessment and management clinic of which she won an award as the patient’s champion.

While at King’s College Hospital London where she worked as a clinical Nurse Specialist, she published ‘TIA service at Kings’ as GPs supplement.

Gloria contributed to the WHO – WSO Lancet Commission on stroke services and recently the WHO package of intervention for stroke rehabilitation. She is currently working with other stakeholders on advanced stroke research for stroke survivors in low- and middle-income countries.

Gloria has been sharing her expertise on stroke advocacy and rehabilitation through newspaper publications, television and radio talks, conferences, seminars, training courses for healthcare workers in Nigeria.

She is a true advocate for this area of healthcare and continues to create pathways for patient rehabilitation.
